  1. I absolutely enjoyed this short from Mr. Brooks. Great perspective on the part of the narrator. I’m not going to give away any plot spoilers, just go read it!

  2. Read it! Loved it! Well done Mr. Brooks. I devoured the story and was sad to see it come to an end so quickly. As Laila says, “More. More! MORE!”

  3. I LOVED that short story. I had been looking for a good vampire vs. zombie story for A LONG time. And this was great! I mean… I didn’t like the ending, but still… GREAT! Like the other commentors, I also would’ve liked more! Maybe Mr. Brooks will rewrite this short into a longer story??? Perhaps even a novel??

  4. Bummer of an ending. Very diff. from the WWZ books, since humans are not going to survive in the story. Sorry to say-“Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines” did the Vampire vs. Zombie (including “farming” humans) thing already. Still – a new story is always appreciated.

  5. I don’t know about this one…I found it slow and hard to read. Max Brooks is a talented auther, nonetheless.

  9. LOL

Good.. Glad to see physically “perfect”, arrogant, and it would seem, ultimately cowardly vampires immolating themselves from starvation.

Vampires don’t have anything on the zombie apocalypse!

  11. I… Didn’t like it. I don’t know I didn’t like the idea of combining fantasy with what I see to be sci-fi. It’s a weird mix, albeit original. I didn’t like it compared to the traditional narrative. Vampires and zombies inhabit a different niche for me.

  12. I liked it, Hmmm i think people have read too much into the humans won’t survive bit its non canon and the vampires where few in number and couldn’t travel and find more food(like us in that situation and global mass comms was down plus asia had it worse than the west at the time).

Also how are vampires and zombies scfi star trek is scfi…..they are at best fantasy/horror .

  13. Well not sci-fi, but they are brought on by a virus and vampires and supernatural, just doesn’t quite fit for me.
