THE IMAGE–SEPULCHRAL By Patrick M Tracy

The damned are reinvigorated
in the twilight
their husks
suffused with a new and
unwholesome potency,
their staggered steps increasing
to a torrent as they
shamble toward us
these bad dreams that we have
chosen as our affliction
acting as comparably pleasant
obstacles to block our view
of the deeper poisons in which
we wade,
the stagnant demesne
of the dim priests who have
gone mad on the power
we favored them with
so long ago
and all
the peripheral functionaries
who benefit just enough
from
the acts of tyranny that they
keep silent as the good blood
runs deep and thick in the
streets
the salve of our
small remaining kindness
exhausted
by the end of the
work week and replaced by
numb incomprehension
until there is
but a small cognitive
leap between flipping on
the television set
and
leaping upon a stranger at a
filling station, feasting upon
his flesh until the authorities
arrive
to drill high velocity
relief channels in our tombs
of flesh.
Yes! This is a powerful piece, and once again demonstrates your versatility as a writer. It’s always good to see more of your work.
